WHAT IS MOTORSPORTS?

Motorsport, motorsports or motor sport is a global term used to encompass the group of competitive sporting events which primarily involve the use of motorised vehicles, whether for racing or non-racing competition. The terminology can also be used to describe forms of competition of two-wheeled motorised vehicles under the banner of motorcycle racing, and includes off-road racing such as motocross. Motorsport and hill climbing are the riskiest pursuits, and require the highest degree of courage and conviction to pursue this sport. This paper defined and described motorsports, and dwelled at length on the developmental history of motorsports, particularly auto racing or car racing. Starting from the manufacture of the first gasoline-fueled automobiles, and first organized contest on 28th April 1887, every stage of development such as the period up to 1950, and thereafter till date has been included. Four- (or more) wheeled motorsport competition is globally governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA); and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) governs two-wheeled competition. Likewise, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) governs powerboat racing while the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) governs air sports; including aeroplane racing.

HISTORY

Automobile racing, also called motor racing, professional and amateur automobile sport practiced throughout the world in a variety of forms on roads, tracks, or closed circuits. It includes Grand Prix racing, speedway racing, stock-car racing, sports-car racing, drag racing, midget-car racing, and karting, as well as hill climbs and trials (see hill climb; see also rally driving; gymkhana).  Aspendale Racecourse in Australia in 1906 was the first dedicated motor racing track in the world. Following World War I, European countries organised Grand Prix races over closed courses. In the United States, dirt track racing became popular. After World War II, the Grand Prix circuit became more formally organised. In the United States, stock car racing and drag racing became firmly established. Motorsports ultimately became divided by types of motor vehicles into racing events, and their appropriate organisations. In early racing, in both Europe and the United States, competing race cars were usually prototypes of the following year’s models. After World War I, racing became too specialized for the use of production cars, though occasionally high-performance touring cars were stripped of their bodies and fitted with special seats, fuel tanks, and tires for racing. Still later stock-car racing in 1939 started with standard models modified for racing. A sport is defined as “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
