WHAT IS FIVE CARD DRAW?

5 card draw is one of the oldest and simplest variants of poker. Stud poker first appeared as early as the 1860's in America. Formerly all poker games had been "closed" - the cards were known only to the player to whom they were dealt. Stud poker is an "open" game in which most of a player's cards are displayed on the table.  There are many people whose introduction to the world of poker was through this game.  Since poker is a five card game it is natural that the earliest form of stud poker was five card stud. In this game each player's first card is dealt face down and known only to the owner, but the other four are dealt face up with a betting round after each. The game has been available since when poker was played in the backrooms of smoke-filled bars.  It is commonly played in home games but rarely played in casino and tournament play.

The variant is also offered by some online venues, although it is not as popular as other variants such as seven-card stud and Texas hold 'em. While most poker variants (eg. After the cards have been dealt, the first round of betting takes place. The player to the dealer's left is the first to act, ie he can either check or open the betting round with a bet. WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR 5 CARD STUD?

While rules may vary from game to game, these are some of the most common 5 card poker rules followed in all variants:

One of the most obvious 5 card poker rules is that the game would be played only with a deck of 52 cards.

First, the dealers hand each player one card face down and one face up. If you choose to play with a ‘bring in’ bet, the player with the lowest face-up card pays then betting proceeds as normal. Players paying the bring in bet has an option to bet more than the minimum. If there is a tie for low card use suit rankings to break the tie. Suits are commonly ranked in reverse alphabetical order. No more than 6 players can play the game at a single time because of limitation of cards.

After the face-down and face-up cards have been dealt, starting with the player who has the best hand and passing clockwise. Players either bet or fold. All bets are added to the pot. The player who begins the betting may choose to check if there was not a bring-in bet.

There is a set initial betting amount, subsequent raise amount and maximum amount above which no one can bet.
